Critical thinking for Personal Trainers

Believe it or not, personal training requires some high level thinking skills. We need to independently make decisions based on limited information. We have low levels of supervision of these decisions. And we need to find, assess, and interpret, information from a range of sources. Critical thinking is a key skill in all these situations, but is not discussed in personal training courses. In this session we discuss the latest research into the critical thinking skills of personal trainers, and talk about how we can develop our own skills in this area.

– identify the role of critical thinking in day-to-day personal training
– appreciate the need for improved critical thinking skills
– learn some basic critical thinking skills when assessing new information
